What are the Main Differences between FRP and PVC Wall Panels?

19 September, 2019

Fiber reinforced plastics or FRP panels and PVC panels are two of the sought-after wall paneling materials for building facilities. In particular, these panels are used in commercial facilities that have a humid, hot and wet environment like, kennels, dairy farms, fisheries, meat packaging facilities, cannabis grow rooms, health care facilities, public bathrooms and so on.

But, when both the materials are compared, PVC panels stand out as a much superior option than FRP panels. One of the reasons for this can be that FRP panels have been in use since the 1930s, and therefore, the material is not as innovative or technologically advanced as PVC panels. In this blog, Duramax discusses FRP v/s PVC panels to help you make an informed decision.

Easy v/s complicated installation process

The major difference between FRP and PVC panels can be seen during the installation process. While PVC panels are easier to install, do not require additional adhesive or backer and can be installed by one person as the panels are lightweight, installing FRP panels is not quite that simple.

Before installing FRP panels, you have to pre-install a backer of plywood, drywall or OSB. FRP panels also require adhesives and face mounted rivets. Since the installation process requires glue and surface fasteners, you need professional laborers to complete the task.

Affordable v/s expensive

PVC panels are cost-effective in the long-run and they do not require additional material and labor expenses. On the other hand, FRP panels seem affordable initially, but when the labor and material costs are factored in, it is seen that the expenses increases.

Completely v/s slightly non-porous

Our PVC panels come with a seamlessly interlocking feature that ensures that moisture is not absorbed at all. This makes sure that our panels will not rot or have problems of mold and mildew. On the other hand, FRP panels are not completely safe from the absorption of moisture. These panels can mold and rot with wood moisture absorption.

One-man v/s two-man job

As aforementioned, there is a huge difference between the installation process of PVC and FRP panels. Our PVC panels are lightweight and can be installed quickly by one person. It can even be a DIY job as you only have to place the screws in the right flanges and the other side of the panel will get interlocked. FRP panels, on the other hand, requires two professional laborers. A lot of accuracy and precision is required during its installation and you cannot do-it-yourself.

So, to sum up, unlike PVC panels, FRP panels are not 100% moisture resistant, does not have a smooth rivet surface and cannot be installed quickly. Also, FRP panels require a lot of maintenance while our PVC panels can last long if you simply wipe the panels with a soft cloth. Our PVC wall panels are the ideal solution for wet and moisture environments. As one of the premier wall panel suppliers, Duramax is offering free samples of PVC panels. Call to get yours today.
