PVC vs. FRP panels – Why should you install PVC panels on the walls and ceiling?

26 July, 2021

Humidity and dampness inside commercial spaces are a very big challenge. Solutions like drywall, plywood, oil paints or even tiles fail to offer long-lasting results. Therefore, vinyl is being widely used to manufacture wall and ceiling panels. PVC panels are waterproof, which is the biggest advantage. The panels are being heavily used inside moisture-prone commercial interiors. These panels are becoming extensively popular, so now many companies manufacture vinyl wall panels in the USA. Do proper market research or surf various company websites to locate a renowned wall and ceiling panel expert.

The best panels never need replacing – A lot of clients in the USA have installed durable vinyl panels from Duramax. We specialize in manufacturing commercial PVC panels used across various industries, including grow rooms, car washes, kennels, commercial kitchens, the food processing industry, restaurant and kitchen, meat packaging units, stables, and more. Duramax has been designing PVC panels for more than 40 years now. Our durable and lightweight panels are made from 100% pure vinyl. As a result, the panels are resistant to impact, fire and chemicals. In addition, Duramax’s vinyl wall panels are safe as they have a 1-hour Class A fire rating.

PVC panels versus FRP Panels – a comparison

FRP panels were a popular solution until vinyl gained its popularity. FRP is fiber-reinforced plastic that comes with OSB (Oriented String Board) backing panels. These backers absorb moisture and humidity, which is detrimental for the FRP panels and the walls beneath. FRP panels soak in moisture which delaminates the panels and damages the walls to a great extent. But PVC panels eliminate the need for oriented string board backing panels so there is no moisture absorption at all. As a result, the panels and the walls are dry underneath.

If you compare the FRP panel cost to PVC panels, you could be tempted by the low FRP cost. We would suggest you not pick FRP panels for a moisture-prone commercial interior. The panels could initially cost less, but FRP requires frequent repairs and expensive routine maintenance. Whereas PVC panels’ cost is slightly higher than FRP initially, there is zero investment on these panels post-installation. Also, installing PVC panels is less expensive compared to FRP panels. PVC panel installation requires no gluing or a second person and the panels never need replacement. Installing Duramax vinyl panels requires half the labor cost compared to FRP. A local experienced can complete the installation single-handedly within 7-8 hours if the entire unit requires paneling.

Save money by incurring low maintenance costs

PVC wall and ceiling panels are low in maintenance solutions designed by Duramax. The panels have a smooth surface that does not attract much impurities and does not allow bacteria to reside on its surface. The panels require occasional cleaning or washing, and you can wash them without fearing dampness due to moisture seepage. On the other hand, FRP Panels have a rough surface that is very difficult to clean and maintain. Vinyl panels can last for 40-45 years without any heavy maintenance, while FRP Panels remain in good condition only for a few years.
